Tapovan–Gaumukh Trek

The Tapovan–Gaumukh Trek is a legendary Himalayan pilgrimage and adventure that takes you to the source of the holy River Ganga (Gaumukh Glacier) and the breathtaking alpine meadows of Tapovan, set beneath the towering Shivling Peak (6,543 m). Starting from the quaint hill town of Munsiyari, the trail follows the Gori Ganga River valley, passing ancient villages, rhododendron forests, and high-altitude meadows before reaching the base of Nanda Devi East and Nanda Devi South peaks.

While the classic route begins in Uttarkashi (Garhwal Himalayas), seasoned trekkers can also approach Tapovan from the Kumaon side via Munsiyari, linking remote valleys and passes of the Nanda Devi–Milam region with the Gangotri valley. This extended trans-Himalayan route is remote and challenging, combining the raw beauty of Kumaon with the sacred landscapes of Garhwal.
